ONE Dollar Luxury Body Wash

So I've received a lot of bar soap in the past, because I like luxury and hand made soaps so people buy them for me for gifts. I've made body wash for myself in the past, and it works and my skin feels really good, but I wanted one for my husband, and one that was cheap for when I ran out of soap bars.

You can make this with any soap scraps at home that you want but Olay makes some great stuff that is wonderful for your skin, and I went with Irish Springs because.. well the stuff smells so damn good! My husband is super picky with the things he puts on his skin, because he has ultra sensitive skin, so when I told him what I was using, he was all on board to try it!

I bought both soaps from the Dollar Tree. The Olay was $1 and I got 2 Irish Springs for $1, so 50 cents per bar. Then I estimated that I used about 25 cents of coconut oil (probably less but not really sure, but ends up close to $1 for Two and a half bottles).

I was also speaking to one of my friends, and her family members skin reacts weird to coconut oil, so she's going to try doing it with half shae and half coco butter in place of the coconut oil. (I'll let you know how that goes).

So the image below is the consistency after everything is said and done. It's liquid but it is a thick liquid that attaches, so it's great for a loofah or a washcloth.

Ingredients:

-1/2 bar of Olay moisture outlast bar (45g or 1.6 oz)

-1/2 bar Irish Springs Moisture Blast (45g or 1.6 oz)

-1 Cup loosely packed Coconut Oil

-4 cups water

-2 tsp glycerin (optional, this helps the soap to keep it's foam)

Note: You can use any other type of soap, or use a whole bar of Olay if you don't want the smell of the Irish Springs. You may have to adjust the water a bit with different soaps, so might be a bit of trial and error.

Directions:

1. Put 4 cups of water on the stove and heat up. You want it hot but not boiling.

2. Shave down your bars with a cheese grater. This should go really easy with both Olay and Irish Springs since they are very soft soap bars. But if you are using a different type of soap that's a harder bar it might be a bit more difficult.

3. Place your soap shavings into the hot water and stir until dissolved. Add your coconut oil and glycerin until melted. This is also a good time to add any essential oils if you want. I left mine without it since I had the Irish Springs for smell.

4. Let your soap sit and cool overnight. You can leave it in the pot or put it in a different containing to cool.

5. The next day--and this step is VERY important--you will want to put it in a blender. Your soap should be a little hard and crusty on top, and very liquidy on the bottom. Put it in a blender and pulse a few times until it's consistent.

6. I then put it in the container I want it to go in for the shower, and let it set for a couple more hours. This will give you the true consistency of the soap. It's at this point where you decide if you like it. If it's too thick return it to the pot, melt it down, and add more water. If it's too watery you can add more coconut oil or soap.

I was able to get 2 and a half bottles out of this. I added a little extra scent to my bottle and left my husband's as is. I then added the remainder of the soap to my hand soap dispensers since I was running low on hand soap.
